Shopify has just dropped their Summer 2025 Edition, and while we always look forward to these updates, it’s important to remember that not every feature is instantly available, or accessible to everyone. Some tools are rolling out gradually, and others are exclusive to Shopify Plus users or select regions.

That being said, there are some exciting changes we’re particularly thrilled about here at Omni Online! If you’re running an eCommerce business on Shopify, here are the top 5 things you should be paying attention to.

1. The Horizon Theme Foundation: Total Design Flexibility

Shopify’s new design foundation, Horizon, is a major leap forward for storefront customisation. With 10 new free themes that are optimised for conversion, Horizon makes it easier than ever to build custom layouts that reflect your brand’s personality, without the need for heavy development.

What’s new:

  • Custom Layouts: Build unique, brand-aligned storefronts without heavy reliance on developers.
  • AI-Powered Blocks: Generate custom content blocks using AI, enhancing creativity and efficiency.
  • Enhanced Editor: Enjoy a more intuitive editing experience with features like hover-to-preview and simplified settings. See below for all the editor updates.

All of these updates mean less reliance on developers and more flexibility for eCommerce brands who need to pivot quickly or want more control over their brand’s digital look and feel.

2. Smarter Selling with Shopify Markets

Shopify has continued to make international selling more seamless with a range of updates to its Shopify Markets platform. These updates have allowed for more control over localisation, transparency, and operational flexibility, which is such an exciting update for brands scaling or currently shipping globally.

Key updates:

  • Multi-entity support: Shopify Plus users can now sell under multiple legal entities within a single store. What this means is that merchants can manage a singular region’s operations, such as billing or taxation, from a single backend. This is great for brands who sell to various countries and as such deal with different legal and tax frameworks.
  • Duties at checkout: All Shopify users can now collect duties and taxes during checkout! This is so helpful in building trust with international customers by clarifying total costs before payment (and not having them hit with extra unexpected costs once your products arrive in their country).
  • Include duties in product pricing: Shopify has now established duties-inclusive pricing, which allows duties and taxes to be embedded into your listed product prices. This is fantastic news for creating a smoother purchase experience, with the elimination of surprise fees for international customers.
  • Create submarkets: You can now create submarkets under an existing regional market, which allows you to offer a consistent yet localised shopping experience across different regions. For example, you may have a European market, but now you can create a tailored experience for French customers, down to pricing, language and tax settings.

Overall, these Shopify Markets updates are a massive win for everyone; with international selling becoming a smoother experience for both brands and consumers.

3. One Discount for Multiple Savings

Creating promotions has become more straightforward; with the ability to now apply a single discount across products, order totals and even shipping, when used with select discount apps. For example, you have the ability to set up one discount code (e.g., FUNDAY) which could provide customers with both 20% off + Free Shipping.

Advantages:

  • Simplified Management: Brands can now manage all discounts from a single interface.
  • Enhanced Customer Experience: Brands are able to provide clear and consistent discounts across various aspects of the purchase.
  • Increased Flexibility: You can tailor promotions to suit different sales strategies and customer segments.

4. Easier Migrations from Other Platforms

Thinking of switching to Shopify? It just got easier!

Shopify now supports streamlined data imports via CSV from a wide range of platforms: Square, WooCommerce, Etsy, Wix, Amazon, eBay, Clover, and Lightspeed. This helps brands migrate their catalogues, customer data, and inventory without the usual technical headaches.

Benefits:

  • Ease of Migration: Transition to Shopify with minimal technical hurdles.
  • Time Savings: Migrating to Shopify now takes less time by quickly importing essential data to get your store up and running.
  • Data Accuracy: Your data integrity will be maintained during the migration process.

5. A More Intelligent Shopify Sidekick

Shopify’s built-in AI assistant, Sidekick, also just got an upgrade. Sidekick helps you troubleshoot issues, generate images and create copy, but now it goes beyond surface-level answers and leans on multi-step reasoning.

In other words, you can expect smarter responses, tailored strategies, and the ability to suggest improvements based on your business data.
